Radical Lace & Subversive Knitting

In the last several years, traditional arts have made a resurgence. I've been pleased that knitting and crocheting have been at the forefront of this movement.

Therefore, it was only a matter of time till artists started incorporating these materials and techniques into works that are innovative and thought provoking. It allows us to look at these art forms with new eyes and question our old assumptions.

Melanie,
I have taught myself to crochet and knit in the past 3 years and love it. As a sculpture artist, I have also felt other artists would look down on me for doing such a 'homely' craft. But it is heartwarming and inspiring and I have since contributed to a freeform coat that travelled across the US and is now being made into a book. I believe making from the heart is always an art, no matter what the medium.
I never thought of myself as being a subversive knitter/crocheter, but I like it!

I've also been knitting for the last few years and love it! Although, I haven't progressed from scarves, each one is different, as I mix colors, yarns and patterns in a {somewhat} subversive style.
